School Uniform
The School Dress Code has been established to ensure that all students represent our core school values.
RATIONALE
The dress code is established by the School Board of Mindarie Primary School to promote a positive, safe and healthy learning environment for the students.
The School Board believes a school dress code:
- Encourages equality among students.
- Fosters responsibility, organisation, and accountability for personal items, such as school hats.
- Fosters and enhances the public image of the school.
- Ensures students are safely and appropriately dressed for specific school activities.
- Assists in building school and team spirit.
- Assists in identifying our students for requirements of duty of care, especially for out of school activities.
STANDARDS
For the health and well-being of the child, it is necessary that students are clean and well-groomed including clipped fingernails and long hair tied back. Hair that is collar length or longer must be tied up or back, irrespective of gender.
Jewellery is not permitted except for studs or sleepers for pierced ears. Other body piercing is strongly and actively discouraged as safety cannot be assured. Children having piercing on the face will be asked to place sticking plaster over this for health and safety reasons – for the student’s well-being as well as for others. If not adhered to, for the aforementioned reasons the student will be excluded from recess, lunch, sport and Physical Education sessions.
Watches may be worn, providing smart or electronic watches are set to aeroplane mode during school hours. Jewellery is not permitted, except for Medic Alert pieces. Cultural/religious jewellery may be permitted with approval from the principal.
Cosmetics, nail polish and nail extensions are not allowed. Children wearing nail polish and/or make-up will be asked to remove this.
Students must wear a school broad brimmed hat when outside and wear clothing that covers the shoulders to protect the skin from the sun. Mindarie Primary School adheres to a Cancer Council Sun Protection Policy which includes a no hat, no play approach to sun safety. Hats are our students’ ticket to play at break times. Any student who does not have a hat will be expected to sit out at play times, on a school bench near the undercover area.
Students are required to wear pants clearly visible from the bottom of their school shirt. All students should refrain from wearing bike shorts that do not meet this requirement. Bike shorts may be worn underneath a school skirt or skort.
CONSEQUENCES
Where a student’s clothing is not consistent with the school dress code, measures will be taken by the school staff. This may include contacting parents by letter or phone and not allowing children to attend incursions, excursions, or sport at an interschool level. Students wearing jumpers, jewellery items and accessories that do not meet the code, will be asked to remove these items, and place them in their bag for safe keeping.
