School Uniform

Mindarie Primary School is a leading education establishment in Perth. The School Dress Code has been established to ensure that all students represent our core school values.

RATIONALE

The dress code is established by the School Board of Mindarie Primary School to promote a positive, safe and healthy learning environment for the students.

The School Board believes a school dress code:

  • Fosters and enhances the public image of the school.
  • Ensures students are safely and appropriately dressed for specific school activities.
  • Encourages equality among students.
  • Assists in building school and team spirit.
  • Assists in identifying our students for requirements of duty of care, especially for out of school activities. (If children cannot be seen immediately in school and on excursions, there is a danger of strangers approaching our children or coming onto the property.)

STANDARDS

For the health and well-being of the child, it is necessary that students are clean and well-groomed including clipped fingernails and long hair tied back.

Jewellery is not permitted except for studs or sleepers for pierced ears.  Other body piercing is strongly and actively discouraged as safety cannot be assured. Children having piercing on the face will be asked to place sticking plaster over this for health and safety reasons – for the student’s well-being as well as for others.  If not adhered to, for the aforementioned reasons the student will be excluded from recess, lunch, sport and Physical Education sessions.

Watches may be worn. Cultural/religious and Medic Alert jewellery is permitted but please advise the Principal.

Cosmetics, nail polish and nail extensions are not allowed.  Children wearing nail polish and/or make-up will be asked to remove this.

Students must wear a school broad brimmed hat when outside and wear clothing that covers the shoulders to protect the skin from the sun.

Irrespective of gender, hair that is collar length or longer must be tied up or back.

Modesty in dress is a part of our dress standards. All garments need to reach a maximum of 10cm above the knee with a strait hem line.

CONSEQUENCES

Where a student’s clothing is not consistent with the school dress code, measures will be taken by the school staff.  This may include contacting parents by letter or phone and not allowing children to attend excursions or sport at an interschool level.
