Children Transferring to Other Schools

When children are about to leave our school or transfer to another school, parents are asked to contact the school office at least a week or more beforehand, if at all possible.

This will provide adequate time to enable the staff to ensure that all records, books, medical cards, reports, etc have been completed or checked prior to the child’s departure.

It also allows us to farewell our students and wish them all the best in their new school.

Children’s Property

Valuables and toys are not permitted at school and no responsibility is accepted for loss or damage to students’ personal property.

If a personal item is brought in for news, teachers on request, may place it in a safe place for the day.

Please also ensure that all property such as hats, books, pencils, rulers etc are clearly named so that lost or mislaid items can be returned to their rightful owners.

Collecting Students During School Hours

To guarantee the safety and well-being of our students, all parents collecting students from school during school hours are required to notify administration and to sign the children out of the school.

Parents will then be given a note so teachers will be aware that the appropriate paper work has been completed and authority from the office has been given for the child to leave the school premises.

Communication With Parents

Open and regular communication with parents is considered a critical factor in your child’s schooling. This two-way communication ensures that teachers and the school get to know the perspective of parents as well as providing parents with information about the learning program and their child’s progress.

At Mindarie Primary School, we do not consider that the only time we should meet with parents is when there is a problem. Rather, we consider that developing an ongoing rapport between parents and teachers is something that should develop over the course of a year. We encourage you to get to know your child’s teacher and to make a time to talk with them about your child. The purpose of the school diary is to also serve as a communication tool between school and home.

If you are at all concerned about your child’s progress or aspects of their learning program please do not hesitate to contact the teacher to talk the matter over.

FORMS OF COMMUNICATION

INTERVIEWS BY ARRANGEMENT
Parents are encouraged to make appointments to discuss their child’s progress. If you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s progress, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a mutually convenient interview time. This will enable yourself and the teacher to talk in privacy and in a relaxed setting without the distraction of other parents or children. On some occasions, teachers may initiate an interview with parents. We request that parents do not interrupt classes during lesson time. Approaches to teachers before school to discuss major concerns and issues prior to the start of the day are not encouraged as this is when preparation for the day is being conducted. Any urgent need to see teachers can be arranged through the office.

NEWSLETTERS
Newsletters are published fortnightly and placed on this website on Friday, hard copies are available in the school office. These contain essential information for parents such as forthcoming events and important or interesting things happening in the school. Each term a calendar planner is also added to the website.

CONCERNS
Should there be a matter or issue which is of concern to you, please do not hesitate to contact the school to make a mutually convenient appointment time to discuss this matter with the school administration or class teacher. A discussion, phone call or email will usually clear up any queries or misunderstandings. By contacting the school in the first instance, areas of concern are hopefully able to be resolved quickly and amicably. In the first instance these should be discussed with the teacher and if necessary with the Associate Principal for your child’s sub-school.

Emergency Contact

Parents are requested to make sure that the emergency address and the phone number registered on their child’s admission card is up to date.

If this is done, unnecessary delays in making contact with parents will be averted.

If employment or postal details change, please contact the school immediately with the updated details.
